# Inbox

> How to review and manage patient conversations in the Shasta provider portal.

## Overview

Use **Inbox** to review patient conversations, AI-handled calls, SMS messages, emails, and internal notes. Open **Inbox** from the Shasta provider portal sidebar, or go directly to [app.shasta.health/provider/inbox](https://app.shasta.health/provider/inbox).

## Conversation list

The conversation list shows the patient or contact name, the latest message preview, and when the latest message was received. Unread conversations are marked with an unread indicator.

Select a conversation to open the full message history.

## Filtering conversations

Use the **Filter** menu at the top of the Inbox to narrow the list.

* **All Active** shows active conversations.
* **Unread** shows conversations with messages you have not read.
* **Needs Reply** shows conversations where the latest message is from the patient or an unassigned contact.
* **New Patient** shows conversations that are not yet tied to an existing patient user.
* **Archived** shows archived conversations.

You can also use **Search conversations** to search by patient name or latest message content.

## Managing conversations

Use the conversation menu to mark a conversation as unread, archive an active conversation, or unarchive an archived conversation.

Inside a conversation, you can review the timeline and respond through the available message channels for your account. Conversations may include SMS, email, phone call summaries, AI-handled call entries, suggested responses, and internal notes.

## Tips

* Start with **Needs Reply** when triaging messages that may require staff action.
* Use **Unread** to catch new activity you have not reviewed yet.
* Use **Archived** when you need to find a previously closed conversation.
* Search by phone number or patient name when a conversation is difficult to locate.
